Montero gave me a wrapped box before I left the Helix. He told me to wait until I reached my room at Galaxcium before opening it. Montero never gives gifts without a reason. He’s the most deliberate person I know. So whatever is in that box, it’s not a birthday present. It’s a plan.

He then went back to his work on the tactical console. He stopped tapping the screen, stood up straight and looked right at her. “I understand congratulations are in order. Well done, Zorra. Galaxcium. That is an honor,” he said, bowing his head slightly before he sat back down.
His comment left Zorra dumbfounded. He usually never gave her compliments, and she didn’t know what to say in return. She was about to thank him when he presented her with an unwrapped box. The card read: “To Z. Love, Monny.”
Zorra felt touched. He had never given her a birthday gift. He also never called her Z. And, he never responded to the nickname Monny.
